Kivi Power-box on the wheel for auxiliary controls

Power-box on the wheel for auxiliary controlsThis product is a radio-wave  device that groups the auxiliary controls of the vehicle on the steering-wheel, right or left side, according to the driver's preference.

It has a button-board with a handle allowing you to manage the wheel and the following controls:

The size of the power-box is very small, while the surface of the griffe staying in contact with the wheel is very large.

When you don't want to use the device, you can easily remove the handle and the button-board, leaving on the wheel only the griffe.

Details below:

Why the power-box works by radio-waves?

The transmitter sends the impulses to the receiver by radio-waves, using the same digital technology as in the space field.

This system can assure you:

  • A perfect functioning, also when transmitter and receiver are very far each other

  • Lack of interferences with other electric/electronic apparatuses in the car (power-stations, mobile-phones, radios, external electronic signals and other apparatus)

  • Lack of electro-magnetic pollution

The above device is conformable to the highest security levels, either active or passive, and to the Ce rules.

The position of the power-box on the wheel

You can place the power-box in any point on the ring of the wheel.

There are two different kinds of support: a right support and a left support, in order to get a quite exact placement of the power-box (also very near to the spokes, where necessary).

For the same reason, the hole in which we insert the handle doesn't stay in the middle of the support, but in its lowest end.

The push-buttons

The push-buttons for the auxiliary controls are  in relief: they jut out of the surface of the transmitter about two millimetres.

Kivi push buttons

The exact position of the button  you want  to push can be easily found by the simple movement of your fingers; you don't need to take your look off the road not even for a moment.

Security reasons require in fact that such devices are used and controlled by a finger research, not a visual research.

For the same reason, and also to avoid feeding problems and to assure a long life to the battery, the buttons don't light.

The buttons of the transmitter are only six; this way it's easier to memorize the correspondence between buttons and controls.

The handle

Kivi handle

The handle of the power-box is an ergonomic round knob that allows you to grasp it very well by your hand. It doesn't have sharp corners and you can easily remove it if you don't use the power-box.

The controls functioning

HORN KEY: A short pressing on this key causes the sounding of the horn.

LIGHTS KEY: A short pression causes the lightning. A long pression for more than two seconds causes the lightning of side and anti-dazzle lights, that you can turn off by another pression on the same key for more than two seconds.
By the side lights on, a short pression on the above key causes the change from anti-dazzle to dazzling lights and vice versa.

ARROWS KEY: A short pression on one of the two keys causes the lighting of the corresponding arrow, that you can turn off by another pression on the same key or on the other arrow key. A long pression for more than two seconds causes the lighting of the EMERGENCY LIGHTS, that you can turn off by another pression on one of the two keys.

WINDSCREEN WIPER I KEY: A short pression on this key sets in action the motor of the windscreen wiper at first speed; by a second pression you can stop it. A long pression for more than two seconds sets in action the glass-washing pump until you release the key.

WINDSCREEN WIPER II KEY: A short pression on this key sets in action the motor of the windscreen wiper at second speed; by a second pression you can stop it. To change the speed, you have to push the "Windscreen wiper I" key and vice versa.

The size of the transmitter

It's very small:

   Length : 100 mm
   Breadth: 56 mm
   Thickness:16 mm

Kivi transmitter size

Thanks to its size, the transmitter doesn't interfere with the correct functioning of the airbag.

What's the griffe?

The griffe has two specular metal shells, that are fixed to the wheel. Its function is to be a valid support for the transmitter and for the handle, in order to become a unique body with them.

Kivi griffe

For that reason the whole surface of the griffe staying in contact with the wheel has to be very large: in this case it's about 60 square cms. The transmitter binds the griffe tightly, independently from the rotation of the wheel, while the anatomic handle turns 360° on its axis.
