Promoting Safe, Dignified and Inclusive Transport for People with Disabilities
Providing safe and respectful transport for people with disabilities is more than a professional responsibility – it’s a vital community service. Whether you’re driving a bus, taxi, rideshare vehicle or community transport van, having the right skills ensures every passenger experiences dignity, comfort and confidence throughout their journey. That’s why disability transport training is becoming essential across Australia.
Our nationally recognised TLIC3011 Transporting Passengers with Disabilities course is designed for drivers and support workers who want to build practical, real‑world skills in accessible transport. This one‑day, face‑to‑face program equips participants with the knowledge needed to deliver safe, compliant and person‑centred transport services.
At the heart of the course is a strong focus on safety and best‑practice passenger handling. Participants learn how to complete pre‑operational checks of the vehicle and its ancillary equipment, ensuring every trip begins with confidence. The training also covers assistance to passengers in the use of restraints and ancillary equipment – a critical skill for anyone transporting wheelchair users or individuals with mobility aids.
Beyond equipment and vehicle checks, the course explores how to provide appropriate support to passengers during their journey. This includes communication strategies, safe wheelchair transport practices, and understanding how different disabilities may affect a person’s comfort and safety while travelling. Participants also learn how to manoeuvre the vehicle with due consideration of passengers’ disabilities, helping reduce risk and improve the overall travel experience.
Because compliance matters, the course also covers the requirements of relevant government regulations, giving drivers the confidence to meet industry standards and organisational expectations.
The TLIC3011 course is delivered in a supportive, hands‑on environment by experienced trainers. It runs as a 1‑day, 7‑hour face‑to‑face program, making it ideal for organisations wanting to upskill staff quickly and effectively. There are no formal entry requirements, and participants simply need basic English literacy and the physical ability to move safely within a vehicle.
For individuals, the course is available for $550 at our ME campus, with tailored quotes available for onsite group bookings.
If you’re looking to strengthen your team’s capability in accessible transport, improve safety outcomes, or meet compliance requirements, this course provides the essential skills to make every journey safer and more inclusive.
