Sunrise Medical is a world leader in the development, design, manufacture and distribution of manual wheelchairs, powered wheelchairs, mobility scooters, mobility aids and both standard and customised seating and positioning systems.
In early 2021, Sunrise Medical Australia, based in Western Sydney opened its doors with a launch event to celebrate the opening of their new Showroom facilities. With over 27 wheelchairs and the accompanying cushions and backs range, Sunrise Medical is able to showcase their range and create an opportunity to see and trial these products in person, and also guide clinicians towards the right chair for the right person.
“Sunrise has a very broad range and being able to show it all in one place is a big challenge for any manufacturer …. this event has been a wonderful celebration of our continued hard work and dedication” – Sunrise Medical Managing Director Justin Wanschers.
The Sunrise Medical Showroom, Wetherill Park
Sunrise Medical’s Clinical Hub was formed to specialise in all things wheelchairs, they support dealers and agencies within the industry through both products and knowledge to impart to clinicians and their clients directly. Offering a free service, the team support client assessment, equipment trialling and prescription services alongside clinicians.
At the Sydney Showroom, the Clinical Team are proud to showcase their new Clinical Assessment Centre. With rooms to invite clients to assess and trial potential options, Sunrise Medical hope’s to turn their Showroom to a “headquarters for mobility” enabling and complex problem solving with fast and reliable solutions to be implemented immediately for users at any stage of the lifespan, for any degree of impairment.
At the rear of the Showroom sits the Mobility Engineering Centre, housing a Mercedes Van featuring the latest in assistant technology. An expert from the Mobility Engineering regularly visits to assist with clinical enquiries and to determine how their portfolio of electric wheelchair lifts, driving enabling features, car pods and in-built transfer boards can make a positive impact to user’s lives.
The Mobility Engineering Team Member spoke of their role, explaining “we are needed because we can give freedom and the ability to move where you want. This applies to people who want to be independent to drive without needing help all the time, as well as for children with higher needs to reduce the strain on parents”.
Modifications can be made onto a pre-existing vehicle, so you don’t necessarily need a new car to make the family car more accessible. There is a number of vehicles appropriate for modification, and with fitted demo vehicles on the road already in NSW and their Victorian partners, there is capacity to be involved and trial with a Mobility Engineering expert to find the right solution.
The Sunrise Medical mission has always been to improve people’s lives. Now with the Showroom and Clinical Hub, Sunrise is bridging the gap between engineering excellence and therapeutic application directly to those who need it, supporting therapists and users across Sydney and Beyond
